About JAPAN ROCK BARS

JAPAN ROCK BARS is a travel guide to rock and metal bars across Japan, made for overseas fans visiting the country. It is an independent site: we are not affiliated with any of the bars listed, and bars do not pay to be listed. Descriptions are written in English and translated into eight other languages with the help of AI.

How we choose bars

We only list bars we could confirm are built around rock or metal. Places that turned out to be karaoke bars, host clubs or bars of a different genre, and places we could not confirm are still open, are left out.

Check labels and dates

Each bar page shows a label for where its description comes from. "Confirmed" means we checked it against the bar's official website or official social media. "Reported" means the bar has no official information we could read, so the description is based on visitor reviews, articles and social media posts, and may be less reliable. "Last checked" is the date we last reviewed the listing.

Photos and maps

Bar photos are used with the permission of each bar, taken from the bar's own official website, and credited on the page. We do not copy addresses, ratings or photos from Google Maps; map buttons simply link to Google Maps.

Disclaimer

We do our best to keep listings accurate, but we cannot guarantee that they are correct or up to date. Opening hours, prices and whether a bar is open can change, so please check the bar's official information before you go. We accept no liability for any loss arising from use of this site. The legal drinking age in Japan is 20, and most bars charge a cover (seating) fee.
